Moyo |Stellenbosch, South Africa

Moyo Stellenbosch
Well, maybe a little bit touristy but in my opinion a must visit when you are in the wine region in South Africa. This place simply makes you happy. It is so nicely done and funky that I always take people here when I am going to SA. Basically, it is a very big outdoor restaurant with a big tent and various tree houses where there are tables set up for you to have dinner. There is no menu but an enormous buffet in the big tent. The food is okay, not superb but you don’t go here for the food, you go here for the entertainment and amazing atmosphere. Book a treehouse when you make a reservation because it adds to the experience and feels less touristy then in the big tent. In the tent they have performances that are utterly happy and African… Be prepared to do (or watch) some dancing! +27 21 809 1133 | Website

Ree7, Gastrobar| Amsterdam

Ree7 | Amsterdam
A new lunch spot in Amsterdam that I love! Ree7 is around the corner of our new house and in one of my favorite little neighborhoods in Amsterdam; de Jordaan. The Reestraat is one of the nine streets (9 straatjes) which is full of little boutique shops, restaurants and cafe’s. Ree7 is a two floor spot in the middle of this tiny, narrow street. It managed to put some tables on the pavement as well which is great for people watching! They serve great sandwiches and salads (I tried the clubsandwich and would recommend it!) I will soon try their evening menu which should be very good as well. Open every day for breakfast and lunch and from Thurs to Sat also for dinner | +31203307639 | Reestraat 7, Amsterdam | Tram; 13, 14, 17 stop Westermarkt or Tram 1, 2, 5 stop Damsquare | Website

Le Rêve d’Isabelle | Lorgues, France

les reves d'isabelle
Weirdly enough I have been going to Lorgues for the past 7 years (my parents have a house there) and never visited this little Salon de Thé tucked away in a little courtyard before… Obviously, because I never realised it was there and not because I did not want to. I am immediately a big fan! The place is exactly what you are looking for when in the provence; small, romantic, pots and plants and other cute curiosities on a little courtyard with about 6 tables. The food is perfect. You have to try the “Assiette Gourmand” which will be a plate with 14 small dishes. There is also a little shop attached to the place where you can find really nice home decor stuff. The restaurant is opposite the church near the big parking lot and the street is parallel to the main street in Lorgues where there is a nice market on Tuesdays. If you not go on Tuesdays, Lorgues is also worth a visit; it is a beautiful provencal town with ancient narrow streets, beautiful old buildings and plenty of terraces where you can enjoy a drink while you do some people watching. 1 Place de l’Église, Lorgues | +324 94 73 96 28 (closed on Wednesday and Sunday) and open from 10.30am to 6pm | €€

L’Alechou | Tourtour, France

alecou
This charming little restaurant is located in a must visit little village in the Provence, Tourtour. A beautiful drive up the mountain with spectacular views once on the top. Apparantly Tourtour is called ‘the village in the sky’ because it overlooks a large part of the Provence…
This little restaurant is not on the main square but hidden in a small romantic alley with again breathtaking views. They serve simple French food and crepes. I had a good salad with goat cheese and an even better tasting Rose (see the attached photograph for the wine). You should not go here if you are looking for haute cuisine but it is for sure the most romantic little bistro in the village with the best view! Route d’Aups, 83690 Tourtour, France | +33 4 94 70 54 76 | €€ | Map

Salvador Aram Yam Boutique Hotel | Salvador, Brazil

Aram Yam Boutique Hotel
I loved staying in this super cool boutique hotel which is located in a town house in the middle of a beautiful street in the old town of Salvador. The whole street consists of breathtaking 17th and 18th Century architecture and is just gorgeous.
I loved the interior of the hotel and the spacious, airy room we had next to the terrace with the swimming pool and mind blowing view of the bay. The small infinity swimming pool overlooks the bay and after 10pm turns into your private pool if you have the right room (!).. So makes sure you book that one if you feel like spending it 😉
The food they served was also really good and the service super helpful, kind and friendly..Anyway, a great experience in a great city! 132, Rua direita de Santo Antônio, Salvador | Room prices; From £170 to €350 acc to the season, except during Christmas / New Year and Carnival. Hotel Chèvre d’or | Eze Village, France

hotel chevre d'or
Should you wish to suprise your loved one and stay in a super romantic hotel you should really consider going here for a few nights. Hotel Chèvre d’or is located in one of the most charming villages of the Cote d’Azur in France.  To start with, Eze is an absolutely gorgeous medieval village shining on a rock overlooking the Mediterranean sea… Walking through its streets you feel like going centuries back in time. The hotel is build in the same style as the village. There are several terraces, gardens and restaurants overlooking the sea and I spent several hours on the lounge beds with cushions right on the rocks towards the sea.  You can have dinner in one of their 4 restaurants overlooking the sea or stroll around the village to have some dinner there. Both are super romantic options! The charming rooms are dotted around the castle-like place and are all different. Also, it is very near Nice airport so easy to get to. 6 Rue du Barri, Eze Village, France | +33 4 92 10 66 66 | €€€€ (prices from €300,-) | Website

Toca do Morcego | Morro de Sao Paulo, Brazil

Toca do Morcego
Thinking of this place I want to go back to Brazil tomorrow… This open air club and bar on an Island near Salvador is totally paradise! Visualise; lounging on colourful cushions, sipping a caipirinha, watching dolphins jumping in the sea while the sun goes down and perfect party/lounging music in the background…Okay, this may sound a little hippy’esk but this is how I experienced it! Once the sun is down and the moon comes out the party continues and you can chill out on cushions or dance on the sand amongst the trees. Paper bags with candles inside make the place super cozy too. Great place to go with group of friends or like me with your boyfriend / girlfriend / husband / wife. Getting there involves sort of a climb through a forest but what you get is the best view on the island, live music and party…Rua Caminho do Farol Nr 13, Morro de Sao Paulo, Ilha de Tinhare, State of Bahia, Brazil | $$$ | Website

Welgelegen Hotel | Capetown, South Africa

hotel welgelegen

I stayed in this hotel twice now and would probably stay here again when going to Capetown. I love the fact that the hotel has a very homely, personal atmosphere. The 13 rooms are all different and all incredibly charming. It is small and has a little courtyard with a tiny pool that is more for dipping than swimming but it enables you to at least cool of and have a glass of wine while siting on one of their deck chairs. If you do not necessarily wish to stay right on the coast when in Capetown than I would definitely recommend staying here. If you have access to a car you’ll be at the beach in 10 minutes anyway, so why not? 6 Stephen St, Cape Town 8001 | $$$ | +27 21 426 2373/4 | Website | Map

Delaire Graff Estate | Stellenbosch, South Africa

Delaire Graff
Wowzers this restaurant is good… I booked a table here well in advance (probably about 9 months or so ) and was given a superb VIP table with the best view for me and my family. It is unbelievable how amazing you can eat in this country for relatively little money.. I would go to this place if you have something to celebrate and want to have a delicate lunch with a spectacular view. The gardens on the estate are beautifully kept (with an impressive art collection/sculptures) and a treat on itself and you can also do wine tasting. Unfortunately for me I could not taste the wine because I was pregnant (actually could taste but could’t drink / swallow haha) but it is apparently really good…The estate also has lodges where you can stay but we (unfortunately) stayed somewhere else. The location is absolutely gorgeous though so I bet the lodges will be as well.

Kurland Hotel | Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

Kurland Hotel

Unfortunately this hotel was already full when I tried to book it 10 months before we went to South Africa so we stayed somewhere else but we did have a High Tea here one afternoon and it was so amazing that I want to absolutely mention it as a place not to miss when you are traveling to Plettenberg Bay. The hotel lies close to the beach right underneath the green mountains of Plettenberg. It is fantastically decorated and utterly romantic. Think of rose gardens, country style interiors and delicious food. There is also a separate restaurant on the estate called Katerina and I had a snoop around but it was closed so we were unable to try the food. If I were you I would book Katarina’s for a lunch as it is more bistro style and the homestead restaurant for the evenings which looked superbly romantic. This hotel is too lovely to miss!! The Crags, Plettenberg Bay 6602, South Africa |+27 44 534 8082 | $$$ | Website
