Mr Porter | Amsterdam

Mr Porter W Hotel
Let’s just begin with the quote they put on their website which is spot on: “About Mr Porter; A companion by day, a hunter by night. A gentleman, a merciless lover. A jetsetter and a local. It is this duality, this constant battle of extremes that is MR PORTER. Cosmopolitan yet familiar. Extravagant yet modest. MR PORTER fearlessly explores the borders between dinner and sinner.”
This restaurant on the 5th floor of the W Hotel is very cool. Trying to get even with all trendy hotel bars and restaurants in other metropolitan cities around the world. Amsterdam needs more of these so I am happy! The view from this restaurant is absolutely amazing, the food is great, the lounge looks stunning with the coolest sleek interior decor and is just breathtaking at sunset. The whole place turns an orangy yellow, it’s like setting foot in the Garden of Eden (in my imagination…). I will update the current photograph with the one that captures this as soon as I’ve been able to shoot it and you’ll see. I had the best warm and cozy dinner in this South American Fusion restaurant last month with my brother. Outside it was cold and raining and this restaurant invited us in with its cozy look and feel. I love the way the place looks. It’s very big and spacious but cozy at the same time because the space is separated in smaller areas with clever lighting and lots of wood and wall pieces. The romantic atmosphere is emphasised by a red rose and a candle on each table. To me it actually felt like I was back in Brazil for a bit!
Their food and cocktails are amazing. They do great appetizers and delicious steaks and the ceviche on the menu is also really good. In the summer, you can sit outside on their terrace. Golborne Road…. The place to be in 2015 if you ask me! New trendy original places are popping up like daffodils in spring! The roof terrace of this four story bar / restaurant overlooks the railway tracks and for some reason I think this gives an edgy feel to the place being on the dodgy end of Golborne Road. The place looks fantastic. Very stylish cosy interior and a perfect meeting place for a drink with friends or grab some food. I do think the food is too expensive but I would still go back for the whole experience, their amazing cocktails, roof terrace with heaters and stylish decor. Loved the Lobster! They also have spaces available for private dinner parties apparently…36 Golborne Rd, London | +4420 3752 0530 | Tube: Westbourne Park or Ladbroke Grove | Website | £££

There is a new Italian restaurant in our hood… and the cool thing is that suddenly this part of Kensington Park Road (the crossing with Blenheim Crescent) has become an Italian hood… There are 3 Italian restaurants next to each other on one side, and right across the street there are two others… Conclusion; should you be in a desperate need of Italian food you just go to this part of London and you can be quite sure to get a table in one of them. This particular one is very Italian and took the spot of the old Rossopomodoro (also Italian!!). I would recommend them to dim the lights a bit and put some candles on the tables but the food is absolutely amazing and so is the Italian service. Have the Parmigiana di melanzane if you want to make sure to order a hit but everything else I tried was great too. Love their table outside which has heaters and is a great spot for people watching … 186 Kensington park Road, London | Tube; Notting Hill Gate or Ladbroke Grove | £££ | +442072210154 | No website

Shrimpy’s | Kings Cross, London

Shrimpy's London Kings Cross snackettes dinette
If a place offers Snackettes, I’m generally sold. I love sharing plates so I can try lots of different things. Especially if it includes chips and dips and deep fried chillies. Shrimpy’s call themselves a deluxe dinette, offering burgers, chippies, as well as some other more healthy options. The restaurant was set up by the old crew behind Bistroteque and they renovated an old filling station to launch Shrimpy’s. The interior is a bit of a weird mix but I like it. Expect a good time surrounded by fun wall illustrations, lots of random golden pineapples, palm trees and a few giraffes.. PS. They have lots of seating space outside too. Goods Way | Tube: King’s Cross | Website | £££

Waldorf Astoria | Amsterdam

waldorf astoria amsterdam
The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam hotel consists of six 17th century canal houses right in the heart of Amsterdam. The hotel is very chic, very big and very grand. Think marble floors, high ceilings, monumental stair cases and superrrr attentive staff. I have to be honest in saying that the interior style in the rooms is not particularly my style but it is definitely very comfortable ;-). They also have a luxury spa with access to the indoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness centre and three treatment rooms for relaxing and massages. Great hotel if you are staying in Amsterdam for business and you want something central, very comfortable and with superb food.. Their restaurant Librije’s Zusje has the former chef of 3 Michelin star restaurant de Librije as their master chef so the food there is absolutely amazing. I also loved their vault bar which you entry through an enormous original steel door (this part of the hotel was originally a bank and the old 19th century vaults are still visible behind the bar) It is very much a gentlemen’s bar (for girls too…) in terms of atmosphere; Dark and chic.  Herengracht 542-556, Amsterdam | Tel: +31207184600 | Tram: 4 (Keizersgracht/Utrechtsestraat) 9, 14 (Rembrandtplein) | €€€€ | Website

Bibendum Oyster Bar | London

Bibendum Oyster Bar
If you are currently decorating a house / apartment or just love interior design in general like me you have to visit The Conran Shop in South Kensington and afterwards have lunch in this place to count your money or let it all sink in. I adore this shop and always go home with the intention of starting to save for at least one item I spotted. The restaurant is amazing too. The interior is Art Deco, French style brasserie and for some reason it actually feels like stepping out of a time machine (going back), while at the same time the overall look is modern. Still follow? In any case, the food here is great and just a tiny bit more chic then the overall pub around the corner and it is also great people watching. I also quiet often had a glass of wine with some oysters and nibbles here in the past so you can also go here for a drink after work or an afternoon snack after shopping in this fab neighbourhood. 81 Fulham Road, London | Tube: South Kensington | £££ | +4420 7589 1480 | Meals served noon-10.30pm Mon-Sat; noon-10pm Sun | Website

Chez Bruno | Lorgues, France

Chez Bruno
This truffle king is already well known by most people but I still really like to write a post about this gem in the provence. Especially, since I now visited this restaurant three times and every time I go I enjoy it even better. So what is this truffle king all about? Visualise a very glamorous, romantic, outdoor setting, exceptional service and beautifully prepared food with fresh ingredients and of course black and white truffles….The truffle is a ridiculously expensive fungus found locally and all dishes are centred around this truffle. It is mouth-wateringly good. Their gardens are beautifully kept and there is a possibility to sit in the garden, in the semi outdoor/indoor ‘hot-house and inside. The indoors also look really chic and cozy so in the winter I would definitely give it a shot as well.

Portobello Garden Arcade | London

The Portobello Garden Arcade
Having a little bit trouble getting out of my hood as you can read.. But the cool thing about London is that there are places coming and (sometimes regretfully) going all the time. So even though you don’t leave your hood doesn’t mean you can’t try new things!! Anyway, discovered this amazing place this month and was blown away by the few things I tried from their menu. The place is owned and run by Italians and you can see, feel, smell and taste this without trouble. “Bongiorno! Hav’e a’e seat’e”  is how I was welcomed. Tucked away behind an arcade on the busy Portobello Road this is the perfect stop to make to refuel and regain your strength! You can have a full Italian lunch, breakfast or dinner, or just have a coffee, a glass of wine or a cookie. I adored the Parmigiana di Melanzane and the cookies they gave me for free when I asked for the bill.
Great place! 269 Portobello Road, London | Tube: Ladbroke Grove | +4475 3453 2039 | ££ |  No website

Relais de St. Denis | Tourtour, France

st denis While spending some months in the provence I payed various visits to one of my favourite little towns in this part of France; Tourtour. This restaurant is located on the main square in the village and in my opinion the restaurant there that looks the best. Not sure if it IS the best but they at least tried to make it look the best :-). Being on holiday in the provence makes everything taste a little better then if you would be at home and I very much liked the lunch I had here.. The garlicky escargots and mixed platter of varied provence foods made me happy.. In almost all restaurants in Tourtour they serve the wine of Thuerry and I would highly recommend having this wine… It is utterly delicious (especially the Rose L’exception which you can also buy within a 20 minute drive of Tourtour… YOU WON’T REGRET!)
