Mazi | Notting Hill, London

Greek restaurant Mazi London Notting HillAmazing food, atmosphere and service at this cool Greek restaurant just off Notting Hill Gate. I wish I had discovered it earlier! It reminded me of summer holidays in Greece with white walls and a simple light decor. We went on a Friday night when it started to get really busy at 7.30pm – glad we made reservations! The lovely Greek waiter suggested to order 2 jars to start with, 2 hot dishes and one signature dish to share between the 2 of us. And so we did. Absolutely loved the grilled aubergine spread which came with really nice bread and a smokey flavour. We also thought the feta tempura was great, to mix with meringue and lemon. The calamari main was special but not our favourite while the greek yoghurt mousse was the perfect end to our dinner. Foodies will enjoy this place. They also have a cute garden in the back. 12-14 Hillgate Street | Tube: Notting Hill Gate | Tel: +44(0)2072293794 | Website | ££

Dirty Burger | Shoreditch, London

Dirty Burger
So basically I hit this spot by mistake. As always I am trying to eat healthy and do my exercises but then I ended up strolling through Shoreditch without having had a proper breakfast or lunch. Exactly at the point where I realised I was hungry I came across this place… So Bingo! Well, I have to say that even though the cheeseburger was probably an unhealthy quick fix… It made my day. What a delight! This is not a place where you will have a romantic dinner (but you will probably not pick a burger joint anyway…), or relaxed sit down. The place has a counter where you order your thing and a few stools and bar to sit and wait/ or eat. The concept is simple, the food is great, the location the best. Squeezed in between Pizza East, Lyle’s and Shoreditch House so should you try to get a table at any of these venues and end up on the waiting list forever, you can always go here. Dirty Burger is part of the Soho House group and they just always get it right….(The Oak, Chicken Shop, Pizza East, Soho House, Electric, Deanstreet Townhouse etc) 13 Bethnal Green Rd, London E1 6LA |+2077494525 | Tube: Shoreditch High Street | £ | Map | Website

The Oak W12 | London

The Oak W12 London Ravenscourt Park restaurant
A new Oak! As you may already know, both Elsje and I are long time fans of The Oak in Notting Hill. It was one of our earliest favourites in London, and still is. I only just found out that they opened a second one so I desperately wanted to check it out. When I walked in I immediately felt the Oak vibe which is informal, friendly and really cosy and tempts you to hang out all afternoon and stay until late at night. You kind of feel at home… They offer the same kind of menu with great pizzas and other Mediterranean options all made with fresh ingredients and quality products. The difference with this Oak is that it’s slightly bigger, it’s also more airy with a lot of light coming through the high windows. Lovely space both inside and outdoor, and good vibe. 243 Goldhawk Road | Tube: Ravenscourt Park or Goldhawk Road | Tel: +44(0)20 8741 7700 | Website | ££

Bar Mick | Amsterdam

Bar Mick Amsterdam
A home away from home. This bar works for every occasion. Whether you’re alone and in need of a coffee and a magazine, feel for homemade cakes and tea with friends, looking for a really tasty lunch or dinner, after work or after dinner drinks, Bar Mick has got you covered. The owners of the place Marijke & Dick are good friends of mine and have done a brilliant job in getting the feel, food, atmosphere and interior just right. A happy place. I went to check it out on Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago and ended up staying for hours trying lots of different dishes, whoops! My tips: Loved the Big Mick hamburger and recommend getting the ‘Brandt&Levi’ sausage sandwich for lunch. If you’re visiting from abroad ask for the ‘Borrelkaart’ and order different things from the typical dutch bar snacks. So good!!! Compagnie de Vins – Seven Dials | London

A new wine bar & brasserie in Covent Garden by the owners of the Experimental Cocktail Club (ECC). They’ve just swapped the cocktails for lots and lots of tasty wines – you can choose from over 300 options! The staff is happy to help you make your choice between the big wine houses as well as lesser known producers. They also serve great snacks and brasserie food. It actually feels a bit like Paris… This spot serves wine only so it’s perfect place to take your girlfriends. They do NOT serve beers so you may want to keep this in mind before you ask your boyfriend to come along 😉 8-10 Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden | Tel: +44 20 7734 7737 | Tube: Covent Garden | Website | £££
