A new favourite in Amsterdam East. The people behind Hanneke’s Boom turned an old farm into the perfect all day hideaway. I felt like I was in the countryside sitting at their long wooden tables overlooking their picknick field. They use locally sourced food for great home cooked dishes. From brunch, lunch, dinner to evening drinks, they’ve got you covered with a great menu and a relaxed low key vibe. Hotel rooms are coming soon too, love this place! Rijsel Rotisserie is good!! The food, the friendly waiters, good vibes. It’s a little out of the way in a residential street in Amsterdam Oost and based in an old school building with a retro interior. The menu changes all the time, but you can always expect simple and delicious French/Belgian dishes. We went for oysters and the poussin (Rijsel’s poussin was named the ‘best chicken in town’ by Johannes van Dam!) which comes with baked potatoes and a really nice salad. I also really liked the Huzarensalade, a must. The place feels authentic and works for everyone and all occasions. One thing I didn’t like was the bright lighting as I prefer more dimmed lights in the evening. Make sure to book a table, they are always packed. Closed on Saturday and Sunday. Completely excited about this relatively new restaurant in Mayfair. Just a few steps away from Roka Mayfair actually (very different food, atmosphere and price range though!) This is a great French Bistro restaurant to go to for lunch during business hours but it looks so good that I think it will probably also be really nice in the evenings or for drinks in the afternoon. The interior style is contemporary and industrial with very cool light fixtures and it looks light and fresh during the day. I Loved their tableware so much that I now have the same tableware at home and I also found their salads original and fresh.
In their basement they have a very cool looking cocktail bar. 41 North Audley Street, London | Tube: Bond Street | +4420 7493 3443 | ££ |Website
Oh my what is this restaurant good… Heavenly…The best. I am in love. I had trouble getting a reservation here so I would recommend making a reservation a few weeks before especially if you want to go in the weekend.
I also recommend you try the Premium tasting menu.. Expensive but the best, and it allows you to try things you may not select yourself. I basically could not speak a few times because I was just trying to figure out how to express myself about the divine food that entered my mouth haha…
Okay so; the restaurant is located in Mayfair (there is another Roka in Marlybone – see Guusje’s post), has a contemporary Japanese Robatayaki cuisine (award-winning) and has room for about 80 people in the main dining area, a few high tables with stools for 2 guests and seats around their Robatayaki grill. They also have a few tables outside on the pavement. The grill is in the center of the restaurant and the whole place has a warm contemporary feel to it. I wish I could eat here everyday! 30 North Audley Street, Mayfair, London | +4420 7305 5644 | ££££ | Tube; Marble Arch or Bond Street | Website | Map
For some reason this amazing pub never made it onto OLBB. Probably because I went here before OLBB was founded and did unfortunately never come back until recently (because there was a lot to check out in between and I do not come in Fulham that often…) So well, just the kind of place that I love. It is an easy place. You’ll have a great ale at the bar while waiting for your brown wooden table with candles. The food is traditional pub food with some real good game dishes (the food is actually fantastic!). The interior is cozy but spacious. They have quite some tables and the pub is also open for brunch! 676 Fulham Road, London | +4420 7384 9559 | Tube; Parsons Green | £££ | Map | Website
Love this little restaurant in Islington on walking distance from Highbury & Islington Station and right next to the BEST bar ever (Sawyer and Grey) In le Coq you pick a starter and as a main you’ll get the most amazing, juicy, free range roast chicken with sides of your choice… The interior is cozy with an open plan kitchen, small tables, industrial details and big windows overlooking St Paul’s Road. Perfect restaurant to go as an easy dinner during the week, with your parents when in the neighbourhood or with your romantic date. Probably wise to make a reservation on time if you are planning to go here in the weekend. On top of this they have a private dining room, do take away and office delivery and catering for large parties! 292-294 Saint Paul’s Road, London |+4420 7359 5055 | Tube; Highbury & Islington | £££ | Website | Map
I am back on the road in our hood (and other ‘hoods’ so stay tuned) I am so excited about this new restaurant on Westbourne Park Road! It’s the perfect French little bistro. Small, cozy, good location, delicious food and great wine list. You’ll be served by French, eat French and feel French when here.
The restaurant does not come cheap and the dishes are small and to share. When we were dining here at the bar they told us they are focusing on small proper wine makers in France. So most wines here, you won’t be able to find in the shops in London and are really good. This makes it all more charming to me! Love the place and will definitely be back for more delicious French signature dishes and wine! 69 Westbourne Park road, London W2 5QH | +44203 602 8890 | Twitter: @cepagesWPR | Tube; Royal Oak or Ladbroke Grove | Map
Now that I’m spending some time in Amsterdam as part of my maternity leave I finally have time to check out what’s new and fun in one of my favourite cities. CT’s is situated in an old twenties style cinema building so think extreme high ceilings, various floors and open plan everything.. A unique space. They did a really good job in making it feel relaxed with a natural look while still keeping it buzzing. Love the black & white photographs on the walls. Probably one of the reasons why it feels good is because it’s almost always busy – be prepared to wait in line for a table on the weekends. On the menu are fresh juices, smoothies, herbal teas, granola, coconut pancakes ( made from almond flour), different salads, a selection of bites and they do dinner too, all very delicious. Who doesn’t love small plates of Manchego cheese, garlic infused shrimps, boquerones with patatas bravas tapas on the side? Toro Gordo is a new tapas place a little out of the way if you have no reason to be near Hammersmith but it’s really close to my offices so I couldn’t wait to check it out – not many fun new places open around here. The restaurant is run by Miguel Caffarena, who previously worked at La Bodega Negra in Soho. It has a bit of that feel to it, even though it’s much more laid back. We had a lovely evening. The service wasn’t great but fine and we enjoyed the food even though I wouldn’t describe it as the best tapas I ever had, but I did feel strongly about writing about it as it’s such a great option for when you’re in the area, and perhaps a tiny bit hangover 😉 – the churros with a dark and white chocolate option as dessert is a must. 121 King Street | Tube: Hammersmith | Tel: +442088347434 | Website | ££
I really enjoyed this new burger place. It’s on the lovely Charlotte Street so perfect for after work dinner, and there are loads of good places to go for drinks before and after. You might think, oh another fancy burger place…. but the difference between most burger places and Bobo Social I think is that it felt like a cosy restaurant instead of something overly trendy where you end up queuing for longer than you end up sitting down for dinner. For starters, you CAN book, secondly the place feels a little like a home – cosy and with friendly waiters, and they serve good drinks (cocktails and wines) and even starters. I absolutely loved the Mushroom and Truffle burger with guacamole and red pepper salsa. They also do a Peanut Butter burger – haven’t tried this one yet so please do let me know if you have. I might have to come back for it. 95 Charlotte Street | Tube: Goodge Street | Tel: +44207 636 9310 | Website | ££
